Willesley Lake

This 24-acre stream fed lake is set amongst a forty-acre heavily wooded, beautiful estate, just outside Ashby de la Zouch. The lake itself has a mixture of depths ranging from extreme shallows to a maximum of twenty feet - but for the most part it averages five to six feet. The lake was formed by damming the stream over one hundred years ago and as is typical of lakes of this nature it has a fairly silty bottom and this holds an abundance of natural food. There are trees and bushes around the perimeter of the venue, and woodland and a golf course beyond those, so you’ll hear very little in the way of road noise. There’s a substantial yet subtle path that completely surrounds the lake, this provides ease of access without detracting from the natural beauty of the surrounding landscape.

There are several platforms and pontoons around the venue, two specifically to allow fishing from a wheelchair. The lake has a lodge that provides members access to mains power, toilets, catering facilities and a shower. It also has its own spring fed water tap. A secure flood lit parking area is

The Myth by Keith Jenkins

Written by noted big fish man, Keith Jenkins, this enthralling book follows the angling exploits of four friends, from their humble carp fishing beginnings to their development as big fish men, their progress culminating in the capture of record carp. A superbly written work of fiction, which not only emotionally involves the reader but also invokes fond memories for many of their own carp fishing lives.

A big, big read. Master storyteller Keith Jenkins, has produced a masterpiece of fiction, although the reader just may find the odd parallel to real happenings in the carp world in recent years! A gripping book.

Superbly illustrated by Pete Curtis, this book is certain to be a big seller.

The Myth (Paperback) is available now from the Carp-Talk Shop for £14.95. Visit www.carptalk-shop.co.uk or call 01430440624 to place your order.

Nash Barrow Logic Food Cool Bag 2nd Edition

This year Nash Tackle has revamped the awesome range of Barrow Logic luggage, which will be known as Barrow Logic 2nd Edition. All the range has been changed for the better, I hasten to add. Just when you thought a product couldn’t get any better, Nash revamps it and does just that. Nash has developed the Barrow Logic Food Cool Bag out of demand from anglers requesting a food bag possessing the quality and features of the Carper’s Food Bag, but in a compact form for mobile anglers doing overnighters or weekend sessions. I use this bag to store my chilled food items when on long sessions, and in the summer months it’s a godsend, but I have also been using it when fishing one or two nights. The Nash Food Cool Bag has an insulated main compartment (to keep your food cool), and the internal lid contains and oval plate and a cutlery set. The front pocket contains a stainless steel cup. The bag also has two external airlex breathable mesh pockets and two strong rubber grip handles, as well as a padded, clip-on shoulder strap. In a nutshell this is a simple bag and one that will see a lot of use this year. The Nash Barrow Logic 2nd Edition Food Cool Bag can be purchased from all good Nash stockists at a retail price of £57.99. For all Nash products visit www.nashtackle.co.uk.

The Keeper  by Keith Jenkins

It’s now some years since Keith Jenkins’ first book was published. The Myth, a novel, received much acclaim, and rightly so, becoming very much a cult book, being so different to what was around in the carp fishing books market. Well, Keith has done it again and this fine new novel The Keeper has built on Keith’s reputation of being a fine writer and master storyteller. All the emotions of life are here – joy, humour and laughter, aspiration, success, along with failure, sadness and grief. And of course, first and foremost it’s a fishing book – a carp fishing book.

Those who have read The Myth will realise that The Keeper follows on from that first book to weave an incredible story of carp fishing with characters and situations that come to life in a most convincing way. As you may gather I was absorbed by this book that only a carp angler could have written... and not any old carp angler, but the inimitable Keith Jenkins. Just buy it!

Korda Carp Care Kit

Within its Ripstop nylon pouch the Korda Carp Care Kit contains two bottles of antiseptic fluid to protect carp before returning to the water. It also contains a plastic tube containing cotton buds with which to apply them. The bottles are labelled ‘mouth’ and ‘body’, separate treatments which both work to protect the carp.

The packaging gives clear, concise instructions in the application of the product, and explains the difference between the two liquids. Many fish can be helped by treating the various fin damage, sores and scale loss when on the bank. When the carp is captured, a quick healing touch can be useful to prevent any infections occurring and causing damage to the fish. Protecting our quarry should be the angler’s first priority, so this kit should be carried by all fishermen who are serious about conserving carp stocks. It takes up hardly any space in the tackle box, so there is no excuse not to protect your catch.

Sourced from Trev’s Tackle (www.trevstackle.com), the Korda Carp Care kit retails at £13.99.
